I went thirty six hours without eating

everything tasted like dog food

It felt just like I was grieving

It felt like more than a phase or a mood


Sleeping was my only relief

when I awoke the dread would return, fast

two hours here, three hours there

I still wonder how long this will last


I tried asking for hugs and got plenty

to love is my only respite

to hold and cherish and defend

amidst all that is wrong, it feels right


This was the day that the world broke

and required more than just fixing a wheel

this is a contest between love and despair

between numbness and learning to feel


If I were human

and I was being

I could be the solace

That I am seeking


I can be the love

that I want to feel

and it will suture my wounds

and allow me to heal


I have lived the last year

inside someone else’s bubble

I have lived amidst the fear

I have scavenged through the rubble


I have gone against the grain

of my lifelong predication

to see the best not seek the worst

with principle and dedication


If Christ were still a thing

I might find solace in his thoughts

If believers still believed those things

The “shalt nots” and the “oughts”.


If I were Buddhist I could meditate

up to a higher plane

Seek beauty among the horrors

find meaning in the pain


If I were human

and I was being

I could be the solace

That I am seeking


I can be the love

that I want to feel

and it will suture my wounds

and allow me to heal
